Charles and Camilla - Camilla vs. Di

From Possibility Knot (which has a really nice blog subtitle), a pointed comment by Bill - wisdom culture vs. celebrity culture or valuing women vs. valuing dolls:

Earlier today, on Special Report with Brit Hume, Hume posed the following question to his crack panel, "You've seen Di and you've seen Camilla. How is that?" The inference, of course, is that Diana was a babe and Camilla is, well, not quite a babe. It's sad. That's not the kind of thing I'd expect from Fox News nor from Brit Hume, whom I consider to be one of the, if not the, best newsman on television today.

A woman isn't just the sum of her looks, nor do any of us necessarily see any other of us in the same way. Ms. Bowles is a very attractive lady, as was Princess Diana, each in their own way. As for why, perhaps Prince Charles wanted someone he could talk to, which is the other thing a man does with his wife --or at least should do. I tends to keep one from falling into a rut.

Stream of consciousness thoughts:

- Charles seems to be much better paired with Camilla in terms of partner. Similar age, style, personality.

- If Charles and Camilla have been together for so long, it´s a good indication that they have a good foundation to keep going in their future marriage.

- If they have been together for many years, it´s best that they get publicly married.

- I don´t follow celebrity/royalty culture, but the few snippets I saw made me think Charles was probably a cad with Lady Di regarding his affair with Camilla.

- 99% of marriages/relationships fail because of lack of dialogue and other internal difficulties, not because of a person´s looks, yet the media and society obsess with the visuals. A world of morons.

- If society invested as much money in learning about how to relate and make marriages work instead of obsessing about looks, a lot of people would have what they sometimes miss for most of their lives: happiness.

- Caring for one's looks and obsessing about it are two different things.

- Except for being royal bores and royal clowns, there´s nothing royal about the Royal family. However, given that British commoners don´t fare much better in that regard, if the Royal family exited the world scene stage left, all that would be left in Britain is a world of middle and lower class bores.

Heaven help us. ;-)
