Discovery: Hitler Quotations
While searching for a quote to put the icing on the cake in this SM discussion (and did I ever find the most perfect quote), I came across a bunch of Hitler quotations. You can do a search and find many Web pages, btw. Very interesting.
Given that I have never read anything authored by Hitler(except little blurbs and such), and don´t know much about him, or WWII (yes, even with all the gazillions of Hollywood movies), but I mean serious history reading, one thing I kept thinking while going down the list of his quotes is they acutely capture this tremendous drive to exalt the German people to be strong and corageous. Example:
It captures so much of that charismatic leader that surges to arouse and embolden a crushed, defeated populace. How could these people not apotheosize such a leader?
It also made me think how not possible it would be for someone with Hitler´s persona to be accepted as a great leader in any Western country today, even if there was an analogous defeated, ego-deflated country. Isn´t that interesting? If he were alive today, he would have had to completely change his presentation style, even if he were as driven and ambitious as before. His extreme authoritarianism wouldn´t go over very well today. He would have to package it differently, mix it with some nuances of a prep talk style.
If he were alive today, and if he couldn´t find his way in some military, secret police system, I have no doubt he could become a substantial millionaire, building an empire of violent pornography, using people of all ages, including children.
"The pornography industry should not become a constable of public opinion, but must dominate it. It must not become a servant of the masses, but their master!"
- Adolf Hitler
OK, in the original it was "Nazi party" for "porn industry," but it fits so gingerly well, doesn´t it?
p.s. I discovered today that to say quotes for quotations is incorrect, but accepted often enough because of exactly the usage reason. Actually I think I knew that somewhere in the back of my mind, but had forgotten. I was also very tempted not to mention this, but could anyone ever tell that I layed a little too thickly that grad school type vocabulary words in this post? Hey, it´s not everyday I get to blog "apotheosize" ;-)

"Become strong again in spirit, strong in will, strong in endurance, strong to bear all sacrifices"
"Man has become great through struggle"
"We are all proud that through God's powerful aid, we have become once more true Germans"
"Struggle is the father of all things. It is not by the principles of humanity that man lives or is able to preserve himself above the animal world, but solely by means of the most brutal struggle. If you do not fight, life will never be won"
